Hey ho friends! Gigan here as he appears in Synflux is a CRAU from a recent short-term game called Heartrate! I love CRAU antics! Not everyone does, and I understand and respect that! So I'm making this entry to supply a brief background on things and specific canon/character callouts, as well as a place to opt out, discuss comfort levels, and so on.

I will not make anyone play with any CRAU aspect they don't agree to. Player comfort is my top priority here! I also tend to talk a lot so I will do my best to keep this explanation very brief and to the point. Some main points below!

What kind of game was Heartrate?
Heartrate was a fast-paced, short-term competition game, akin to a murder game, except the premise was dating. Yep, dating. This particular round was monster-focused, meaning all humans were given a monster form and anyone who was already a monster, like Gigan, was either left alone or given a different monster form. The goal was to build relationships with one another and go on dates, and characters ranked others on how positively they felt towards them.

Uhhh how'd that go for him?
Gigan won second place, which I hope you will all agree with me is incredibly hilarious. He had a very good time overall—forming some close relationships, learning some outside perspectives, experiencing some empathy, developing some character, and all that good stuff. The game only took place over an IC week and wasn't nearly as dramatic as something like a murdergame, so he is very much still himself, but—

Why are you playing him as this CRAU?
The Heartrate experience did a good job of equipping him for the parts of Synflux that involve decision-making, feeling empathy, and living in the context of a society. These are not things Gigan had ever really needed to do before! He is capable of learning them, or else he wouldn't have in Heartrate, but taking him as a CRAU lets me skip ahead a little bit in that development without bypassing it entirely (that wouldn't be fun either). He is very much a work in progress, just a little more progress than he'd have straight from canon. For example, he knows how to do things like . . . put on a pair of pants in human form, a thing he would otherwise still need to learn, so that's nice for all of us.

On a more personal character level, it opened up the door for him to begin thinking of himself as somewhat more of an individual capable of pursuing his own desires and future, which was also not a part of his life historically. Sometimes you are a cybernetic living weapon who gets mind-controlled a lot and lent out like a piece of equipment and it doesn't do a whole lot of good for your boundaries or sense of self. This is also still a huge work in progress for him, but Heartrate helped!

So how about those CRAU relationships?
The real meat of this. This is the part I want to be in close and clear contact about! Heartrate was a very small private game, and several of the characters were OCs, so the number of canons/casts Gigan became familiar with there was very small. But some of those canons are represented in Synflux, though none of the characters themselves are (currently).

The list is short enough that I'm just going to list them out, including those not represented in Synflux right now, in case they become so later. Here it is!

Pokemon: We had a PLA cast, so Gigan has met Akari, Volo, and Ingo, and knows a little about the mechanics of Pokemon types, battles, and so on. This isn't currently relevant to Synflux.

Delicious in Dungeon: Gigan has met Falin from post-canon! He knows the names of Marcille and Laios and that Laios is Falin's brother, but he has not seen them to recognize on sight.

Catherine: Gigan has met Katherine and has seen Vincent and Catherine in a dream sequence. This is pretty unlikely to ever be relevant in Synflux, but hey, you never know.

Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint: Gigan has met Kim Dokja and would recognize Yu Junghyeok on sight. This isn't currently relevant in Synflux and this one would be a liiiiittle complicated to navigate because of literally everything about ORV and spoilers, so if this comes up we can chat it out.

Trigun Stampede: He knows Meryl and has seen memories of Vash and Knives! He also knows some of the backstory of the world (and has some personal investment in it). This one is relevant and I'm happy to discuss it!

Genshin Impact: He has met Aether and seen Lumine in a dream, but the Aether Gigan knows is an AU, and so the odds he would recognize him as the same person if it ever came up are decreased. He hasn't seen anyone else from the cast and doesn't really know anything about the canon.

Dangan Ronpa: Gigan has met Tsumugi and knows . . . a little bit about the concept of NDRV3, but not a lot, and what he did hear just confused him, so he doesn't have a lot of fourth wall-breaking info here if it ever were to come up.

What? This is a wacky AU with friends! See here for details! TL;DR this is Gigan, the kaiju from the Showa Era of Godzilla films, ordinarily a massive cyborg lizard chicken from space, but here transformed into human (mostly) form by Mothra for laughs and probably to learn an important lesson or something.
Human PB: Lussuria from Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

Height: 65 m 6'5" (196 cm)
Weight: 25,000 tons 250 lbs (114 kg); a lot of it is muscle but some of it is chub
Age: WHO KNOWS, tens of thousands of years. Adult.
Hair: steel grey (like, Anime Grey, you know), mohawk style
Eyes: Often covered by sunglasses with bright red lenses, but his right eye is a glowing red cybernetic lens that doesn't blink (think Mortal Kombat Kano, ish, but it can move in its socket and has an iris and pupil). The left eye is missing and the lid is scarred over/shut.

Other Notable Features: His hands and feet are also cybernetic; they are visibly robotic, without skin (this time think automail from Fullmetal Alchemist). He also has a tiny aperture in his forehead that he can shoot lasers out of! Hell yeah!

A lot of his usual cybernetics are missing in this form, but he still has traces of them: he has a triple column of bolts running down his spine (where his wings were attached), and a long, vertical surgical scar running down the center of his abdomen, from just below his collarbone to just above his pubic region (where his rotary saw was implanted).

Abilities: While he retained his laser beam, it's the nature of this AU that he doesn't currently have most of his abilities, since most of them rely on his cybernetics, which have been significantly altered to nerf him. For the most part, he is just a big cyborg dude. He won't even be especially good at fighting until he gets used to having a human form, since it's so different from his own and he doesn't have built-in blades to use to his advantage. EDIT: As of Day 32 in Overdue he has regained his right hammer claw, which he can choose to transform back and forth between claw and hand (though it's much harder for him to go back to hand from claw). SWEET.

One Last Thing: Gigan has implants in both hands that allow him to be effectively immortal so long as his hands aren't destroyed; they can reboot his body and mind and bring him back from "death." These are unlikely to work as expected in this game! We'll find out what happens if it ever becomes relevant! But Gigan has no reason to believe they aren't working normally, so he will be quite protective over not getting them destroyed.

History: See AU link above!
Personality: Gigan is both a sadistic asshole without any loyalty or shame and a gregarious guy who's down to take orders from others. He likes things going his way more than anything else in the world, so everything's gravy as long as he's coming out on top and having a good time, but the moment the tide turns against him, he wants nothing more than to fight about it (and then fuck off if that fight also isn't going his way). He is more a fan of violence than battle—he doesn't follow a code of honor or have any particular respect for a strong opponent. It's just fun to inflict pain on someone he doesn't like, and it's not fun to have pain inflicted on him by someone else, simple as that.

That said, Gigan is a relatively sociable guy who would rather be enjoying himself with someone else than all alone. If he has the opportunity to strike up a rapport with someone, he'll always take it. This doesn't necessarily translate to real loyalty or respect; he is friendly without being nice and is always looking out for himself in the end. Working together is a matter of fun and convenience, and if it stops being either of those things, it's all over.

But being a cyborg who was modified and controlled as a weapon by another race has also left Gigan relatively easy to push around and manipulate. He has not lived a life under his own control in a very long time, if ever, and he isn't quite sure how one does that. This isn't a particular source of angst for him, either; he has never really longed for a life lived for himself. The idea is fairly alien to him. It's easier to seek pleasure in the task assigned to him than to reflect and make big decisions about what would give him pleasure if he had the freedom to seek it anywhere he wanted—which leaves him susceptible to falling into this pattern with others as well. He is a follower to his core, and his identity has been built around the ways in which he was modified from his original organic form and the purposes he was modified for. His personality lives not in having control over his own actions but in the ways he approaches those actions, and Gigan is perfectly comfortable with it being that way.
